Python GDAL: pip install --no-install GDAL fails

By : , Category : python

A workaround to that problem is to

  1. Download GDAL Complete from this site
  2. Install GDAL Complete.pkg
  3. Go to /Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework/Versions/1.10/ and copy all files in there
  4. Go to your virtual environment's sites-packages /venv/lib/python2.7/site-packages and paste the copied files in there
ReLated :

For windows users (as of December 2015):

conda install gdal
conda upgrade numpy

Installing gdal will downgrade numpy, so then upgrade it back up. I recently had occasion to use windows for a change and I was pleasantly surprised that gdal "works" easily now.

Windows+python+gis people worldwide should be celebrating this. (that gdal-python goes in easily on windows...not that windows is one step closer to linux ;) )

You can use anaconda distribution it has precompiled version of gdal

https://store.continuum.io/cshop/anaconda/

And you dont have to compile anything, installs in home directory, doesn't require root access

You may try to put other *jni files into the java path. Might a solution.

The simplest way was to just rebuild everything - thanks @joop
